Great Northern Depot Breckenridge

Great Northern Depot Breckenridge

This is the Great Northern Depot in Breckenridge. It looks like it has been fully restored, but nobody was around.

BreckenridgeMN.net has a photo, albeit somewhat small, of crowds waiting to see President Truman outside this terminal.  The Minnesota Historical Society has a black & white photo of the depot in 1908.

Kent, MN

Kent, MN

Kent is just off Highway 75, about 15 minutes north of Breckenridge.  There’s a small population, and a busy grain operation in Kent.

The little white building in the center is the Post Office, still in operation.  A teenager with a letter showed up just after I took this picture, and I thought, now there’s something you don’t see anymore… teenagers with correspondence at the Post Office.  Ahhh, small town life.

Doran, MN

Doran, MN

Just south of Breckenridge on Highway 9, Doran is a small town of about 50.  I spoke with Ron, a local resident, and he told me the structure below is the bar (on the right) and the steakhouse (on the left) which were closed about ten years ago.

Note to self:  Signs against blue sky — always a good thing.

Ron says the red building below is the last remnant of the former Doran School, which was torn down years ago.  This was once the school gymnasium.
